To install the PTR, you must first have a standard game account. For World of Warcraft, your account must be a full account, can't be a Starter Edition account. Thread regarding this issue.Įdit 3: For those of you lucky sods who Legion Beta cries, doing the same method except using Legion Beta instead of your main WoW folder seems to work, as confirmed by /u/caydcash.The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a special service you can use to test game updates before we release them to the public. 'Storage: 45GB' (I assume this is for the whole of WoW) Current WoW size: 32GB (Mine anyway) This leaves us with a 13GBish download, and then probs some other stuff which maybe I or Blizz forgot to factor in.Įdit 2: It seems the character naming bug is not as a result of using this method to avoid some of the download. (Will put it here if they do).Įdit: After seeing some people still have a 20GB download, and comparing the system requirements for Legion, it seems that the Legion download is actually much larger than I anticipated. Whilst one of my friends suggested it earlier, I don't know how to copy only the Legion content back onto your Live WoW folder, someone in the comments may know. You should now be left with a 'however big Legion is' download. Once your main WoW has been copy/pasta'd into your PTR folder, go back to the launcher and under the Setting's Cogwheel, click 'Scan and Repair'. Copy -> paste your main WoW into the PTR folder. If you have a semi-downloaded version of the PTR, then delete it. Once the 'Downloading 20GB' thing appears, pause it. Make note of where the PTR is being installed to.

Press 'Install' on the PTR, and allow the launcher to setup all it's stuff. This mini-guide will have you avoiding installing the whole game, and only just the legion bit, provided you currently have live installed and updated.Īssuming you haven't 'installed' PTR start at step 1, if you have, start at step 2. Note: The size of the legion patch is 20GB, atleast this way you avoid downloading the other 32GB.
